Grandma's don't Tilt - a - whirl

Updated on August 5, 2013

Grandmas Don't Tilt-a-Whirl

This lens is created for Jeanette Eggers childrens book Grandmas Don't Tilt-A-Whirl." This is Jeanette's second children's book about her grandchildren and the adventures they have together. Jeanette has nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. So I feel pretty confident that there will be a few more books in the years to come. The books are great for a large age group and can even be good for beginning readers looking for something more exciting than Dr. Suess, they are real adventures so it can be more appealing.

Jeanette and her husband, Rich live in New London, WI with thier cat Squeakers and dog Dakota. Jeanette and Rich are both close to all the grandchildren and spend as much time with them as they can. Sleepovers are the norm at their house

In this story one of her grandsons wants to go to the carnival, but dad says not today. So Kennedy does what any good grandson would do, he calls Grandma.

The Carnival

"Come on, Dad, please! Can't we go?" I begged. I had seen a poster at school about a carnival in the park and I really wanted to go. "It has rides and games and cotton candy! Please, please, please!"

Dad did not look excited about it. "No, Kennedy, not tonight. I have work to do," he told me.

Pout
Pout

Pout, beg and plead...

I plopped down on the couch and stuck my lower lip out in a big old pout, but Dad went right on plunking on the computer keys like he didn't even notice. He showed no signs of giving in.

I drummed my fingers on my knee to help me think. "I got it!" I shouted. "Grandma will take us! I know she will. Can I call her Dad?"

Grandma to the rescue

"Oh! Um...Hi Grandma! Can you take us to the carnival?"

"So, there's a carnival going on, is there?" Grandma asked.

"Yes, I saw a poster at school and it looks really neat with rides and games and cotton candy." I said.

"Will you go on a ride with me?" Grandma wanted to know. "I don't want to go on no wimpy ride Kennedy. I want to go on a wild one. I want to spin around until my head spins. Think you can handle it?"

"I went on a really scary roller coaster once." I told her.

"You and Brandon be ready in 10 minutes," said Grandma. "I'll pick you up."

My head is spinning

At the carnival, we looked around at all the different rides and Brandon walked over to the game booths. Grandma bought some tickets and we had to decide what we were going to ride. Grandma and I found a ride and climbed up and the carnival man helped Grandma in and locked the bar over our laps.

Grandma looked over at me and said, "I hope you are ready, because I'm gonna make this thing spin so hard you are going to beg for mercy!"

"Whatever..." I said. I'm the Tilt-A-Whirl master - she wasn't scaring me any.

The End

Can't spoil the story for you, so I will let you find out what happens when Kennedy and Grandma ride the Tilt-A-Whirl making it spin faster and faster.
